I specialise in teaching Chemistry from KS4 to post-graduate level. I also have extensive experience teaching i/GCSE Physics and Science. I have an approved Enhanced DBS certificate that is registered on the Update Service and is currently valid through to 22nd September 2027. I have taught all the main exam board specifications for A level international A level and IB Chemistry. I have been an examiner for GCSE/ iGCSE and A level Chemistry for over 14 years and acted as Practical Endorsement Monitor for 6 years. This has given me extensive experience and understanding of the requirements of the exam specifications as well as helping students to develop their knowledge and exam technique. Teaching Style I base my tutoring on the student's needs, developing their prior knowledge, building confidence in their learning and problem-solving skills whilst developing exam technique. I ensure that students build their confidence through thorough knowledge and learning of key facts. Exemplars are used to develop good exam technique are combined with using appropriate questions, video-clips and prompt information to consolidate the students learning. I encourage students to be proactive in lessons and not to be afraid of making mistakes and learning from them in the tuition sessions. Lessons Lessons are designed to support students and can be tailored to the topic that the student chooses at the start of the session or based on a topic or series of topics that are identified in advance of the designated tuition time. Initial knowledge of the topic is assessed verbally or in a short-written question or calculation. The key specification points are noted so the student is fully aware of what the examiners will expect. Model calculations or answers are developed with as much input from students. Students are then supported in completing relevant questions to consolidate their knowledge and increase their confidence. To summarise.... I really enjoy helping students develop their scientific knowledge, skills and ability to think for themselves to answer the most challenging of questions that they are likely to encounter in their Science exams and to support them reaching their target grades.
